Clearly it had not rained so much as to affect the water level as much as it had, so I was curious about whether the boards may have been placed back in the dam. So Sue and I drove by on Sunday afternoon when we had finished our errands to check it out.
As I approached the dam, the sound of the rushing water cascading over the fall was rather impressive. The old granite sluiceway looked like rapids. It was quite turbulent. As I glanced over to the pond-side of the dam I was pleased to see that boards had been placed back in the steel channels to capture the spring rains. There are at least four inches of water coming over the boards, so the water level will drop slightly from where is is now, but we get to begin this season with a full pond before the summer heat begins.
I have already seen canoes and fisherman return, so we are off to a much better start than we were a year ago. Thank You to the Board of Selectmen and the Fire Chief for replacing the boards early this season.
